@Atari Dad no wonder so many mangas these days have western influenced crap and terms in them, I thought they were just trying to be hip or something but damn you people actually managed to plant your hooks in to anime now. That's very impressive 👏 👍

    • Atari Dad
      Atari Dad Mês atrás +1

@Danieru gyaragā Yeah... That's not true anymore. For the first time in history, the anime industry is now getting the majority of its revenue from the overseas market rather than the domestic market. This means that they now have a financial interest in caring about what western consumers and distributors want. Western distributors now not only have a huge say in what does and does not fly in both the anime industry, they have representatives working in major animation studios. Industry insiders are already complaining about the changes that they have to make in order to avoid upsetting western audiences and they are afraid that it's only going to get worse.
It's already really bad in the gaming industry. After Sony moved most of its operations over to the U.S,, development studios were forced to adhere to the standards of Sony's U.S. branch in California. Visual novel studios were hit especially hard by this, with Sony not only frequently rejecting their games for publication, but going the extra mile to make things more difficult for them by requiring them to submit any appeals to these rejections in English. With most visual novel studios consisting of very small teams and funding, most of them cannot afford a translator, so they are more or less intentionally setting them up for failure.
The west now has a bigger impact on what does and does not fly in the anime industry than ever before, and it's only going to get bigger as the genre gains more and more popularity. Anime is no longer the niche genre that it once was in the west, and that's not necessarily a good thing.

    • Atari Dad
      Atari Dad Mês atrás +2

I'm still convinced that the Season 2 changes happened because western distributors refused to stream it if it had kids carrying guns in it. And since the subsequent arc involved a group of normal kids taking down the strongest demons in the kingdom, they obviously couldn't do a believable adaptation of that arc without any guns being present. So instead, they had to change the story entirely to meet their demands.

I didn’t read up on anything about the show, and I decided to venture on the internet after a couple episodes into season 3 to make sure I didn’t skip a movie or something, only to discover that some sort of catastrophe has happened. And either what I watched was irrelevant or what I’m about to watch is irrelevant but it’s also the same story but also not and yes there’s the same characters but also no and it’s not the same story but also yes. I am so disappointed I was enjoying it immensely until a few hours ago

To be fair, sometimes original characters in itself (not talking about random never adressed ones) can be in fact good additions, provided they are written with respect to the source material. Like the walking dead had Darryl, and DC had Harley Quinn. To be fair neither are anime. But they where new additions that became fan favorites.

Yu Yu Hakusho is a great example of deviating and changing.
In the first arch, there was a lot more of Yusuke as a ghost, where the anime cut most of it and just kept it an episode and a half.
And also the 3 kings arch was much shorter in the Manga, but the anime made it longer to flesh out some of the ideas from the manga.
-Not sure if these 2 examples completely count but oh well.

This can be applied to so many things, one of my favorite book series was the Wheel of time by Robert Jordan, it is just amazing on so many levels and something i would recommend to anyone really.
Then they decided to make a show of it, the second you see the "cast" members you know not a single one of the people responsible for the cast / directing has actually read the books, and it stinks of a generic teen drama show that will figuratively rape the source material.

I was hoping they'd save it at the end but the season finale was just as boring as the rest of it.

Some anime changes make sense, changing up pacing for watched medium as opposed to a read medium so switching some narrative elements around and adding to the visual presentation for the anime in a way the manga would not have been able to, adding in personality traits and quirks that can be conveyed through the visual/sound medium to more round out character, and using creative license to produce new story elements to not outpace the manga or write in new arcs where the anime has already outpaced it.

@Inferi I say "waste time" because that's exactly what it is to me. When I want to be entertained by a connected story I would like the events that happen to matter, which just doesn't really happen most of the time in filler.
Also, when I know there's a filler arc, I don't watch for however long it would go on for and go back to the show afterwards since I know it's at least doing a good job at adapting the source material I enjoy. I spend that free time either watching something else or doing something else, so you're right about .
And if you enjoy filler that's cool. I don't. And I don't think this conversation can go further from here. Later, man.

The worst adaptation I have ever seen was the recent anime "Peach Boy Riverside". The director couldn't figure out a way to end the 12 episode season he was given, so he thought it would be genius to completely butcher the manga's story and have all of the episodes air in a random non-chronological order. It's not a bad anime if you take the time to watch the episodes in their proper order, but jumbling up the story like that absolutely ruins it.

@Slobertooth 13 Jojos generally has very poor animation quality, and except in the parts where the adaption basically did its own thing, has very weak direction.
This is because it does the awful modern trend of using a manga as a storyboard, but it goes way further than most things do. You might as well play the OST while reading the manga, its mostly a better experience.
Its a huge flaw of the show. This is why the original part 3 OVA has much better direction, although it has its own problems.

@Sloppy Phart This is a little late, but, mate, EVERYONE WHINES AND COMPLAINS. You saying how much you hate it when they complain is also complaining. But, yeah. 2d is difficult to do. 3d is more technical, but still difficult to pull off to the point it will be impressive. I animate 2d, and learning to do so takes literal years to get even kind of right. You have to know: 1. how to draw 2. how to draw characters from any angle 3. THEN MOVE THEM AS WELL AS YOU CAN. Which can either be cartoonishly, which requires a mental lock of how to move a character with style and weight that still retains the same distribution of form no matter how it stretches or bends; OR moving the character in a realistic way by fundamentally understanding how their literal muscles would bend and stretch in arcs (as everything moves in arcs). Cut animators, even 2d, some slack, dude.

no but seriously lmfao stfu animators absolutely do not get enough credit or appreciation for the work they do, and if they end up being not happy with a final product it’s probably because they were rushed or forced to change a lot for that project. “bUt uR doiN whAt u lOv!” isn’t by itself gonna suddenly make the artist less exhausted, have more money and more control over their own animations, until their conditions materially improve.
